Logan Hillier (Community Co-ordinator)
Logan Hillier began acting school at 11 and continued until the age of 18, writing and directing his first play at 16.
He then left theatre behind to pursue an academic career in biochemistry, genetics and environmental science at first the University of Surrey and subsequently Bath Spa. After working for a time with the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Logan obtained a PGCE in Balanced Science and his first teaching position at a middle school in Leicestershire. During his time here he ran the local youth theatre producing several musicals.
Arriving in Prague in 2007, he was appointed as a teacher at a prestigious international school, The English College in Prague, whose patrons include HRH Prince Charles, Karel Schwarzenberg, and the late Vaclav Havel. Logan began teaching multiple subjects to the International Baccalaureate students: Mathematics, Science, Theatre, and the Theory of Knowledge.
After exploring the local theatre companies and enjoying several roles with them, he founded Blood, Love and Rhetoric with Jim High in 2009, putting on their signature interpretation of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Since then, over eighty productions have been produced with professional actors or students from the college at a range of theatres including Divadlo Na Zabradli, Na Pradle, Kampa, Alfred ve Dvore, Minor, Palac, and covering diverse playwrights such as Pinter, Havel, Brecht, and Lorca.
Now, Logan is delighted to accept the role as Theatre Community Coordinator with the Prague Film and Theatre Centre. ''I am really excited about this chance to give something back to Prague and provide the same opportunities that I have been lucky to receive. As I see it, one of my first tasks will be to streamline the English-language theatre community in such a way that theatre production companies have access to skilled people who are committed to enriching our local projects and that those people know exactly what is going on and where to find us. I will also be looking to create a fund for young writers and directors to bring their work to life in this amazing and celebrated city. With regards to my background in Chemistry and Genetics, any director will understand that Theatre is a conflux of Art and Science, whether it be cultivating electricity between actors or the skillful interplay of the lighting design's angles, colour and shadow - all of this is blended into an elixir of entertainment.
